Combining the human and the animal imagery, a form will be constructed using basic hand building techniques. We will explore ways of developing personal symbols to allow the piece to have meaning. After construction, the form will be treated with dry clays, slips, and underglazes.

This workshop is based on creating a theme of several small objects that can be grouped together as a series.  These objects will not be any larger than 8 inches.  Surface treatment will be explored with slips, dry clay, oxides and underglazes.  

This class is good for the beginner or someone needing a refresher!  We will construct a life size head using coils.  Detail information will be shared on facial features.  Then the use of symbols, mark making and surface decoration will give visual personal depth to the finished piece. 

This workshop is based on narrative story telling. Using basic hand building techniques, we will coil build a form. This is our shell for your personal language. Working from memory and the imagination, we will address the surface by adding clay, subtracting clay, and carving. The goal is to allow the spirit of the artist to connect with the form by using symbols and metaphors. Surface decoration will be applied on the wet clay before the bisque firing.

This workshop is for anyone that is interested in exploring and expressing nature in clay. We  will be inspired to create sculptural forms (figurative or nonobjective ) by recording ideas from the natural surroundings and from treasures that you have collected in the past.  Demonstrations will include  basic hand building techniques and a painterly approach to the clay surface.

Using a chunk of clay we will work solid and manipulate the clay until a personal visual appears. Once the clay is strong, we will carve out the interior of the form. Surface treatment will be added by using slips, oxides and dry clay.
